Conference aims to boost Hawaii’s share of tech funding

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A technology conference this week aims to help Hawaii business owners make their ideas and research a reality and help the country in the process.
Cindy Matsuki of the Hawaii Technology Development Corporation and Bernice Kissinger, cofounder of Pacific Impact Zone, joined HNN’s Sunrise to talk about the Pacific Tech and Pacific Defense Contracting Joint Conference, happening Oct. 28-29 at the Hawaii Convention Center.
The event aims to boost Hawaii’s share of innovation funding and contracting opportunities from government and private programs.
“Because of Hawaiiʻs strategic location and the potential threats in the regions, the DoD is investing heavily in Hawaii and the Indo-Pacific region,“ Matsuki said. ”We want to make sure our local companies take advantage of this opportunity to help protect our warfighters and the safety of our country. But this is not the only topic covered, there are other federal agencies, including the Dept. of Agriculture, Dept. of Energy, NOAA, and others that will be there, as well as sessions on emerging industries like additive manufacturing and aerospace.“
The conference gives attendees a chance to dive deep into America’s Seed Fund—Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs—and learn how to transition research into impactful market solutions.
